A volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository packs food for distribution to one of the 650 partner food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. Last year 678,000 people were served by the food bank.

Traditionally the supplemental nutrition assistance program, also known as SNAP, has been included as part of the Farm Bill, but house republicans recently voted to have SNAP removed from the bill and cut funding by up to $40 billion.
