Higher fines proposed for bicycle/car-door crashes

Kevin Womac, who has been in a dooring crash, is a proponent of higher fines for drivers and bikers.

Despite investing millions of dollars to install protected bike lanes throughout the city, "dooring" accidents -- where cyclists collide with open car doors -- continue to be a safety concern. In an attempt to decrease these incidents, the proposed 2013 Bicycle Safety Ordinance would increase fines for cyclists that disobey traffic laws and drivers that open or close their door in the path of bikers.
